Shirooru Matha - Sri Vittala
The fifth maTha among the ashTa maThas of Udupi is Sri Shirur maTha. The main branch of this maTha is in a village called Shirur in Udupi district. The first yati was Sri Vaamana teertha, one of the direct disciples of Sriman Madhwacharya. The main idol worshipped in this maTha is that of Sri ViThala with Sridevi and Bhudevi, which was presented to the first peeThAdhipati by Sri Madhva himself.

The 30th piiThAdhipati in the lineage, Sri Lakshmivara teertha, is the present chief of this maTha. He was initiated at the age of 8 years in June 1971. He completed two paryayas in the years 1978-79 and 1994-95.
Preparations are already on for his forthcoming paryaya in 2010-2011. He is famous for beautifully and artistically decorating the Udupi Krishna idol both during his paryaya and that of others’.
