Several organizations, temples and cultural bodies of Mangalore and Udupi have planned several cultural activities and competitions, particularly the ‘Mosaru Kudike’, on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmasthami on Sunday.

Several Hindu associations have erected wooden towers to hang decorated earthen pots from top at various places in the city. Pots of various colors contain milk products, coins and fruits. Some organizers have also hung bunches of banana, and other fruits from top of the tower.
The festival which very popular in the City and several garments shops put up discount advertisements to scale up their business on the occasion. The “Mosaru Kudike” observed with religious gaiety in places such as Kadri, Kulai, Surathkal, Thokkottu, Attavar, Urwa Stores, Kavoor,  Bajal and Maroli and Nanthur.

Members of various youth clubs form human pyramid to break such pots hanged from tower. The festival signifies that youth to remain active in their life and enjoy the life by mingling with others during the festival time.

The Kalkura Foundation has decided to hold a Sri Krishna competition at Kadri on Saturday on the eve of the festival. Generally, many schoolchildren and adults participate in the contest. It also conducts “Yashoda Krishna” competition for woman who should dress like Yashoda. There will be a quiz competition on the life of Krishna, he said.

The foundation has planned a competition of photographs of participants. Photographs taken at the competition should be sent to the foundation before September 1. There will be three prizes.

Sri Krishna Janmamahotsava Samithi, Kadri, has decided to hold different cultural programmes at Kadri on Sunday. International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKON) will observe the festival at Devadiga Samaja Bhawan at Mannagudda.
In the morning there will be Hare Krishna Japa Yajna. In the evening child artistes will stage “Sri Krishna Leela” yakshagana. Abhisheka to the idols of Krishna and Balarama will be held in the night.

The Gopalakrishna temple located Shakthi Nagar has organised cultural programmes on the occasion. The temple was built recently and it has become a pilgrimage centre in the city.
