During the first quarter of the eighteenth century A.D., the Sthanikas in Tulu speaking region of coastal Karnataka lost their reputed position because of the acute Saiva-Vaisnava (Madhva shivalli cult) rivalry,[ the changed political set up, the British revenue policies and as they joined their hands in freedom fights supporting the local rulers of that time.

In 1836 Dewan Lakshminarayya a Sthanika brahmin started the first Non-cooperation movement in south canara and prepared a plan to revolt against the British rule with the help of the king of Kodagu. It was called the Rebellion of kalyanaswamy (kalyanappana kaatukaayi).Till 1845, the administration & chief priesthood of all temples was with Sthanika Brahmins and had an influence over large section of the people. The Sthanika Brahmins who were at the helm of affairs in anti-British movement, were sacked from their traditional posts and their hereditary trusteeship of the temple was also cancelled. A large number of people from the community also have been hanged to death by British and the community became economically poor.[

The writings of a community or a temple record can not be validated as history unless it is confirmed from a third party source or record. Because in India every narrative is of mythological nature mixing smaller events with greater imagination setting a narrative highlighting self and demeaning rivals.
@shankaranarayana bhat,
It may be true that Sthanika brahmins were the the true tulu brahmins. But as a person like you who is well educated and done PHD ,its not right to hate other communities and spread hate in these comment sections. And I have seen you commenting and posting in many of the Shivalli brahmins Website including this website. It feels obvious that you are intentionally doing it. Please stick to your respective job. And if I talk about some of the things that the Havyaka brahmins do these days, it will contradict the points you mentioned in these comments . Please think before you comment.

Tulu is one of the Pancha Dravida languages. It is even older than Tamil. It is shame to call Tulu is Pala Tamil. Inserting mutations in history is wrong. Facts should be written, there is nothing wrong to accept the truth that Sthanikas are the original brahimins. Stating facts should not divide brahmins. Please do not change history to glorify some sects. Fact is that nobody is interested now a days studying Vedas. Focus on how improve without changing historical events. Divakara Muni was a Sthanika responsible for Shri Ananta Padmanabha temple, Tiruvanatapura. Kalaripayatu originated in Tulunadu. For advanced training people from Kerela used to come to Tulunadu. They are called Gurukuls, they originated from Tulu brahmins
