It is a popular misconception that Hanuman is amsha of Shiva, whereas the fact is that Hanuman is avatara of Mukhyaprana vayu. Balittha suktha of Rig Veda, quoted by Sri Madhwacharya in his Vishnu-tattva-vinirnaya is the proof.

Thank You for this very informational website on Madhva sampraday.

I have a question: If Vayu is 2nd in position as Ruju and jiva, and Hanuman who is Vayu is an aMsha of Shiva, how is it that Rudra (Shiva) comes later than Vayu in the hierarchy of devas ? Or is Shiva different from Rudra then ? If so , where is Shiva in the hierarchy ?
