May Lord Shree Krishna bless us on this auspicious day. We need Lord Krishna to come again and purify India's sins, corruption.

Divine path only is ultimate in life than chasing materialistic pleasures. A Monk is the strongest person on earth, the one who has chosen divine path. He omnipresent. Noone can harm him, destroy him or do anything wrong because he is the pure soul. Yadha Yadha Ya Dharmasya Glanirbhuvathu Bharatha,,,,

Is the fast done on Sunday 8/21 (00:00 - 23:59)? Is Lord Sri Krishna born at midnight (00:00 Mon. 8/22), with the fast broken in the morning of Mon. 8/22 after 00:01? Or do I have this completely wrong. This will be my first celebration of Janmashtami.

@ Karuna
Glad that you have decided to fast on SriKrishna Jayanti/ashTami. It's very simple. On the morning of Krishna Jayanti make sankalpa (in mind) that by the grace of God you have decided to keep complete fast on that day, and request Him to fulfill your sankalpa. Do not eat or drink anything on that day. If you are fasting for the first time, you may feel uneasy, just keep chanting "Hare Rama Hare Krishna" (as an example). In the worst case you may drink little water, but even that should be avoided.
Break the fast next day morning (not in the midnight of Krishna jayanti) and thank God for keeping your vow and ask for His blessings only.
Note (Caution) : Pregnant ladies, patients, very old people, infants, etc. should consume fruits, milk and water instead of complete fasting.

Thanks a lot for the information. It gave me immense satisfaction to find that we, at home followed almost 99% of the procedure posted by you with Lord Krishna's grace. It gave me an opportunity to double check the formalities attributed to this festival. Pl. continue this good work for the other festivals as well, for the welfare of all jeevas devoted to HIM. May be, you can add the specific neivedya to be offered for each of the festival.

Regards,
